The Economics Of Electric For Hot Tubs

Electric for Hot Tubs

We get a few calls about installing a 40Amp circuit for a hot tub so I thought it would be a good idea to talk about the cost of electric for hot tubs.

It seems that more than a few folks are “gifted” hot tubs from their friends. “It works just fine,” they’re told. (Why are they getting rid of it?)

Not only do they draw a lot of electricity to heat the water but it can cost between $800 and $1,500 to install just the electric for the unit. (The wire alone can run upwards of $2 per foot!) And, that’s assuming that you have two open spaces in your electric panel or maybe there’s a dryer outlet you’re not using…

Don’t forget: the shutoff box is quite specific for these units and must contain a GFI function.
